DCSki reader Mark Bedle writes about a lost ski area located outside of Lenhartsville, PA:
This entry probably refers to Hahn Mountain.
it does, you can see hahn form pinicle rock...
Is it possible that this area operated as a motocross dirt bike track in the late 70's?I raced on a north facing steepish hill near Lenhartsville at that time.Just didn't take notice of any lifts at the time.
When first built this ski area was called Big Valley Ski Area. I skied there a few times when it first opened. This was in the late 60s or early 70s. I recall a double chair lift and a small lodge. It was OK. I believe it was then renamed Hahn Mountain at some point.
Hahn Mountain. You can see it from the Pinnacle and it is right next to Lenhartsville Fish and Game.
You are all correct except that it was next to Kempton Rod and Gun, not Lenhartsville Fish and Game
The name was originally Big Valley. It was opened for the 1969/70 season. Had a T-bar, double chair and a rope tow. It offered just over 500 feet vertical and some challenging if short terrain. THe middle upper trail called "Big Valley" was a particularly good place to prepare for trips to big mountains. It was acquired by the family that owned Hahn Fire Equipment (a fire engine manufacturer in Hamburg, PA) and renamed Hahn Mountain.
Learned to ski there in 1973 when it was Big Valley. I later taught skiing there at Hahn Mountain for 8 years. Lots of memories.
